SENIOR LEAD FLAME ARTIST · NOMAD EDITING COMPANY · NEW YORK

Steve Morris has been crafting visual effects since 2006, starting out as a telecine assistant at Company 3 before working his way up to VFX assistant. He trained under Tom McCullough at R!OT and later under Randie Swanberg and Mario Caserta at Method Studios, mastering compositing, CG integration, and the finer points of VFX supervision along the way. Today, Steve is a Senior Lead Flame artist at Nomad Editing Company in New York, working primarily in Autodesk Flame to bring two decades of craft to every frame.

His work has appeared in campaigns for Apple, Nike, L'Oréal, Revlon, and dozens of other global brands, as well as feature films including Drive, Tower Heist, The Fifth Estate, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Steve holds a B.A. in Communication from William Paterson University, with a minor in Music and Audio Recording.

For Steve, it's always been about one thing: building a magical world worth living in.

Leadership at Nomad

As Senior Lead Flame Artist at Nomad Editing Company, Steve is responsible for creating the studio's Flame pipeline and ensuring all systems are operating smoothly and properly archived. He leads projects — often as many as seven at once — with a team of up to six additional Flame artists alongside a small CG and graphic design team, guiding work from concept through final delivery. He also manages client and agency expectations directly, running supervised sessions under tight deadlines, and stays ahead of the curve by researching new techniques, plugins, and the growing opportunity of visual effects through AI.
